Job description

Jeannine leads the creation and communication of requirements for the development and enhancement of systems and user interfaces for discovery services; serves as the liaison between Discovery and technical staff, communicating requirements, evolving rules and ensuring implementation.

Jeannine project manages numerous and varied resource discovery initiatives and works closely on schema for metadata (including but not limited to vocabularies), particularly regarding the Service's resource discovery tools.

Research interests

Before joining the UK Data Archive, Jeannine worked as an academic consultant for the Croatian Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports, preparing the organisational, managerial and scientific reform of the Croatian Humanities Research Institutes. From 2007 to 2014 she was the managing and scientific director of the Dutch/Flemish Institute for Dutch Lexicology in Leiden and Antwerp.

She completed her Ph.D. in 1991 at the University of Leuven on prepositions and postpositions in Dutch within the theoretical framework of Generalised Phrase Structure Grammar (GPSG/HG). In 1993 she was awarded the Prize for fundamental research by the Royal Academy of Dutch Linguistics and Literature, Gent, and received a 4-year grant for excellent fundamental research awarded by the Research Foundation Flanders. Her research concerned the lexical thesaurus as starting and finishing point of the interaction between lexicological theory and lexicographic application.

When working at the Dutch Language Union and the Institute for Dutch Lexicology (1997-2007), she co-authored and coordinated the official Dutch spelling reform, established the Human Language Technology Agency, created the Thesaurus of the Dutch Journal of Medicine and project managed several EU research projects.
