ALISS Xmas Special: Open Doors – Gateways to Social Science Information online13 December 2011

On 13th December ALISS (Association of Librarians and Information Professionals in the Social Sciences) will be holding a half-day conference which highlights significant gateways/ portals – websites which provide a single point of access to large collections of full text social science documents, reports and other materials. The three speakers will offer insight on the aims, creation and content of their own projects. They include:
  • Peter Lambert,Knowledge Portal Manager, Third Sector Research Centre and Jennie Grimshaw, Curator, Social Policy Collections, British Library They will introduce the Third Sector Knowledge Portal which was launched in October 2011 and aims to bring together research and information on the voluntary and community sector
  • Rozz Evans, Collection Development Librarian Institute of Education, University of London will speak about the development content and future plans of the Digital Education Resource Archive (DERA)
  • Dr Jane Winters Head of Publications and IHR Digital, Institute of Historical Research was involved in the development of the Connected Histories: British History Sources, 1500-1900 website which was launched in 2011 and offers a federated search of 11 major databases of primary source economic, social and political history texts and images. She will offer insight into the development and content of the site.

Cost: free to ALISS Members, Non-Members £25. This will include mid- afternoon refreshments.
