Looking after your research data: research data management20 June 2012University of Stirling

How confident are you that you know how to manage, organise and store your research data properly?

How much do you know about keeping data safe - by backing up and encrypting them - and about quality and version controlling them?

How do you ensure that you and others can understand your data in the future?

Are you familiar with the legal and ethical issues in data handling and sharing?

The UK Data Archive will guide you through the key aspects of how to manage, document, store and safeguard research data well and how to plan and implement good data management in research projects, with a view to optimising data sharing.

Areas covered will include:

  • data management planning for researchers - why and how
  • documenting your data
  • formatting your data
  • storing your data, including data security, data transfer, encryption, and file sharing
  • ethical and legal issues in data sharing and handling confidential information and personal data

Each topic will include presentations and practical, hands-on exercises and discussion based on real-case examples.

This is a closed event, for Stirling postgraduates and researchers only, organised by University of Stirling Research and Enterprise Office.
