Workshop on Social Simulation

Article dated: 15 December 2005

The ESRC National Centre for e-Social Science (NCeSS), with the co-operation of the UKDA, organised an Agenda Setting Workshop on e-Infrastructures for Social Simulation. The workshop is part of a series of Agenda Setting Workshops funded by ESRC and JISC and lead by Professor Tom Rodden of the University of Nottingham. The workshop took place at the University of Manchester on 26 October 2005 and was attended by over thirty academics from the UK and abroad.

The aim of the workshop was to identify organisational and technical infrastructures that can contribute to the uptake of simulation as a research method in the social sciences. The workshop called for the creation of: a web portal to collect and share knowledge about social simulation methodology and techniques; a computational grid to facilitate the analysis of complex computational models; an archive to preserve and disseminate social simulations; and a UK social simulation interest group.
