Workshops on managing and sharing research data

Article dated: 23 April 2008

The RELU Data Support Service, together with UK Data Archive are holding two workshops on managing and sharing research data. Guidance is based on advice and support provided to ESRC award holders as part of their contractual obligations to share data, and to award holders of the cross Research Council Rural Economy and Land Use (RELU) Programme.

These hands-on workshops will cover key issues on data management and sharing applied to research involving people as participants (interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, observation and so on).

The workshops focus on: dealing with confidential research information and personal data; developing consent agreements for obtaining informed consent from participants; anonymisation techniques and access regulations to enable use and sharing of research data; and data documentation and metadata.

The workshops will provide theoretical information and practical exercises.

The first workshop on 18 June will be held in Edinburgh and priority will be given to RELU researchers, researchers actively collecting data and to ethics committee members. The second workshop on 24 June at City University, London is only open to RELU researchers.

There is no cost for these workshops but places are limited so booking is essential. The workshops will take place between 10.00 and 16.00.
