Article dated: 12 February 2010

Professor Kevin Schürer, Director of the UK Data Archive and ESDS, announced this week that he will be standing down from his post later in the year. After ten years as Director of the UK Data Archive, he will be taking an appointment at the University of Leicester as Pro-Vice Chancellor of Research.hands He said: "Leaving the Archive and the University of Essex has been a very difficult decision to make, but I believe that after ten years in the job, the time is right for both me and the organisation. Knowing that I leave the Archive in a strong and healthy position with an excellent management team and committed staff has made a difficult decision easier."

The University of Essex is appointing Dr Matthew Woollard, currently Associate Director and Head of Digital Preservation and Systems, to the post of Director-Designate from the beginning of March 2010. He will also become Director of the ESDS subject to the formal approval of the ESRC Research Resources Board when it meets in March.
