Staff vacancies in the Secure Data Service at the UK Data Archive

Two exciting positions have arisen in the Secure Data Service (SDS) team within the UK Data Archive (UKDA) at the University of Essex: a Senior Data and Support Services Officer and a Data and Support Services Officer.

The Senior Data and Support Services Officer will play a key role in assisting users in locating, accessing and using appropriate datasets from the UK Data Archive online Data Catalogue, ensuring access conditions are met, and providing advice on dataset content and analysis. Secure Data Service logo Administration of strict government guidelines on accessing potentially disclosive data in a secure environment; training users of the SDS how to use the system, what their legal responsibilities are, and how to undertake simple statistical disclosure assessments of outputs are also duties of the role.

The Data and Support Services Officer will prepare data, documentation and metadata for addition to the UK Data Archive Secure Data Service server. The work involves converting data and accompanying documentation between different software and formats, checking the data and documentation for both new and existing datasets, adding value to them by adding/improving the labelling of variables in data files and creating dataset metadata, including catalogue records and keyword indexes, according to established procedures. The successful candidate will liaise with data creators, staff at other Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) centres and data users. In addition other data-related work within the remit of the Secure Data Service may be undertaken as required.
