The new Archive Director takes over

Matthew Woollard has taken over as Director of the UK Data Archive and also as Director of the Economic and Social Data Service. Matthew has previously worked in the Archive as the Head of the History Data Service (2003-2006) and as Associate Director, Head of Digital Preservation and Systems (2006-2010).Matthew Woollard

As Director, he will be providing effective leadership and strategic direction for the Archive developing and enhancing the organisation's national and international reputation and ensuring that the Archive builds on its strengths as an umbrella organisation hosting multiple national services relating to the acquisition, curation and dissemination of digital data.

With the current financial climate in mind he says that: "in order to move forward successfully, the Archive must continue to innovate and be prepared to make changes to deliver our services more efficiently and effectively and give our communities of users world-class services which they can benefit from".

Departing Director Kevin Schürer commented "I am confident that with Matthew as Director the Archive is in a safe pair of hands and its vast collection will remain secure."
