Campaign for Social Science launch

Article dated: 20 January 2011

On Thursday 20 January 2011, at the House of Lords, the Academy of Social Sciences will launch a major campaign to promote UK social science and raise its visibility in government and among the general public.

This is against the context of changes to funding teaching and research. The Campaign will build substantially on the Academy’s activities in Making the Case for Social Sciences over the past 12 months.

The launch event is aimed directly at politicians, civil servants, opinion formers and influencers, and such people have been invited directly, as have the Chairs and CEOs of member learned societies. This will be the Academy's opportunity to engage key influencers and decision makers directly in its awareness raising campaign.

Speakers include Professor Lord Anthony Giddens AcSS, Polly Toynbee of The Guardian, Sir Trevor Phillips of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Professor David Rhind AcSS, Chair of the Nuffield Foundation, and David Willetts MP.
