Staff vacancy: Data and Services Developer

The UK Data Archive is seeking to appoint a Data and Services Developer to join a team within the Technical Services section.

The Data and Services Developer will be responsible for the design, implementation, quality assurance and documentation of:

  • enterprise search technology
  • components to generate, transform, store and retrieve data in RDF and XML formats

Among other skills and experience the successful candidate will be a postgraduate in a computing-related discipline and must have experience (in a production environment) of generating and handling RDF and XML, validating XML schemas, creating XLST to transform XML documents and using Solr technology. Experience of using XML databases for data storage and retrieval, web service development and deployment plus server-based JAVA development is also desirable.

This is a full time, fixed-term position until September 2018.

The UK Data Archive at the University of Essex is curator of the UK’s largest collection of digital data in the social sciences and humanities. It is also a partner in delivering the UK Data Service, an online portal for social science data, documentation and guidance. Both are vital resources for researchers, policymakers, teachers and students around the world. The UK Data Archive is ISO 27001, certified for Information Security Management.
