Vacancy for Big Data: Technical Access Officer, UK Data Archive

The UK Data Service, the national data service for the social sciences, is seeking to appoint a Technical Access Officer to work within its Access Team.

The UK Data Archive, as the lead organisation in the UK Data Service partnership, has been awarded funds to support the ESRC's Big Data Network. This role has been funded to provide technical access and support services to users of the three ESRC Big Data Research Centres, via the UK Data Service's existing access functions, as well as technical services to existing Secure Lab users.

The post holder will work closely with the Secure Lab staff and be responsible for supporting users who encounter technical difficulties when trying to access, or while using, their Secure Lab account. Duties of the post include: answering and resolving and recording IT queries for users of the Secure Lab; identifying, resolving and, where appropriate, passing on complicated IT queries; configuring and testing Secure Lab project areas and accounts; processing requests for importing user data into the Secure Lab area; issuing UK Data Service registration credentials and acting as liaison between Access and the appropriate technical team when technical issues arise.

We are looking for a highly organised, accurate, technically proficient person with helpdesk experience in an IT environment. Candidates should have good communications and administrative skills and be able to deal confidently and professionally with people at all levels, as well as identifying, analysing and solving problems effectively and efficiently. They should have a flexible approach to duties. While working in a team environment they will be required to work individually, managing their own time and prioritising tasks to enable deadlines to be met.

This role requires the successful candidate to fulfil the vetting procedure for Government contracts.

This is a full-time, fixed term position until 30 September 2017.
